VerVita’s first area of development is a line of essential oils. These fragrant oils—liquids distilled from the plant’s berries, seeds, bark, stem, roots, leaves, and flowers—have a specific scent and carry the essence of each unique plant.
Essential oils are actually the byproduct or end result of plant metabolism—the bio-activity of plants. They are synthesized by the plant chemicals and circulated through the entire plant. Essential oils can be found in the skin of an orange, the leaves of a peppermint plant, and in the petals of a rose flower.
The essential oils are vital for a plant’s survival and a key component in the plant’s immune system. Scientists have observed that different varieties of plants use their unique essential oils for a variety of purposes: to attract beneficial insects in order to pollinate, to repel invading organisms such as a mold, fungus, mildew, and damaging insects, to help in the healing of plants when the plant has been injured, and to prevent water loss from foliage when the climate is hot.
With few exceptions essential oils are extracted from plant materials through cold pressing or distillation. This concentrated extraction is more potent than when the plants are dried as herbs. Essential oils have long been known for their medicinal qualities. Throughout human history they have been used to health the sick, enhance natural beauty, and promote well-being. Their therapeutic effects are still not fully understood by science.
Most essential oils contain 100-150 chemical constituents. Once inside the body—ingested, inhaled, or applied to the skin—many essential oils act according to the body’s needs. They have the effect of balancing the body—bringing it back into homeostasis so the body can heal itself. These are called adaptogen essential oils.
Essential oils have many useful benefits. Some essential oils are used as antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal. Many are used as anti-inflammatory and analgesic to alleviate pain. Still others are used as sedative, calming the mind and body. An additional benefit is that when compared to antibiotics, essential oils are more advantageous because microbes do not develop a resistance to essential oils as they do to antibiotics.
For health and healing, therapeutic essential oils must be raw, pure, unaltered and genuine. They should be used as close to their natural state as possible. The production of pure essential oils requires quality control from the plant in the field to the bottle on your shelf.
Minimal Choices for Maximum Effect
Choosing which essential oil or which nutritional product can be very confusing when there are literally hundreds or thousands to choose from. It also takes a lot of time to educate oneself to know which essential oil or nutrition is needed to achieve a desired effect.
VerVita is working hard to keep it simple. It is not in our plan to offer an overwhelming number of products. We currently have six essential oils. It is through these six that one can balance the energies of the body. One expert trained in hundreds of individual oils, commented that VerVita has, “covered it all”.
Health professionals are discovering the effectiveness of using these six oils with their clients. The choices are clear. Inventory is kept to a minimum. There are no wasted products left sitting on the shelf. Costs are kept low. As we develop our line of professional grade nutrition and our line of health and beauty products, our focus will remain the same here as well: minimal choices for maximum effect.
